YONKERS - A 29-year-old Yonkers man who was stopped by an Anti-Crime Unit police officer for drinking a beer in public was arrested on drug charges after the officer found 15 grams of cocaine - valued at over $500 - in another bag the suspect was carrying.

Arrested was Desiv Fields of 100 Herriott St.

Police Officer Robert Hanney was on patrol on Radford Street and Gray Place shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday because of complaints of gang and drug activity when he spotted two men walking east on Radford Street.

One of the two men, Fields, was drinking a Corona beer. He was also holding a black plastic bag.

As the officer approached him because it is a city violation to drink in public, Fields put the bag on the ground.

Inside the bag was another beer, a scale with cocaine residue on it and about 15 grams of cocaine. After Fields was arrested police found three more bags of cocaine and $125 in cash on him.

He was charged with two counts third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and issued a city ordinance violation for having a container of alcohol open in public.
