Task Force makes big Cocaine Bust

MUSCATINE, Iowa — An Illinois man faces felony drug charges after allegedly delivering more than 1,000 grams of cocaine during a controlled buy.
Aaron R. Kewish, 28, of Galva, Ill., is charged with delivery of a controlled substance and failing to affix a drug tax stamp.
Kewish remained in Muscatine County Jail on Friday on $130,000 cash bond.According to court documents filed on Friday, Kewish delivered 1,067 grams of cocaine to a “cooperating individual” during the buy conducted by the Muscatine County Drug Task Force on Thursday in Muscatine.
“It’s a significant amount of narcotics,” said Capt. C.J. Ryan of the Muscatine County sheriff’s office. He said the weight was roughly equivalent to a little more than 2 pounds. Laboratory testing confirmed the substance was cocaine.
A public defender was appointed to Kewish’s case during an initial court appearance on Friday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. April 7.
The delivery charge is a Class B felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison. He faces up to five years in prison
The drug task force is a cooperative project of the sheriff’s office, Muscatine Police Department and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
The Black Hawk Area Task Force of Illinois also assisted in the ongoing drug trafficking investigation that led to Kewish’s arrest.
