ESCANABA — In a recent four-countywide drug bust sweep, police arrested several suspects on drug charges and confiscated several items related to the manufacture and sale of illegal drugs, according to the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET).
On Friday, UPSET detectives conducted a search warrant for narcotics at a residence in Schoolcraft County. During a search of the Manistique Township home, police seized 217 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, according to a news release. Other items confiscated included firearms, money, growing equipment and other evidence of marijuana manufacturing and trafficking.
The drug bust was the result of UPSET detectives following up on information passed along to them from Manistique Public Safety Department. Also assisting with the search warrant were troopers from the Manistique State Police Post.
Last week, UPSET detectives and local police arrested 17 suspects on several illegal drug charges in Delta and Menominee counties. Three suspects were arrested on a six-count drug charge warrant and 14 suspects were arrested on 23 fugitive warrants, officials said. Those arrested were lodged in the Delta and Menominee county jails.
Assisting at the scene were officers from Delta County Sheriff Department, Menominee County Sheriff Department, Escanaba Public Safety, Gladstone Public Safety, and State Police from the Gladstone and Stephenson posts.
While the above drug bust was taking place, police also conducted a search warrant in Marquette County where marijuana, scales and money were located, according to a press release. Arrest warrants were pending on suspects in this investigation.
