12 illegal aliens, over $6 Million in drugs seized

BEVERLY, WASH. — A massive drug bust in three Central Washington counties led to multiple arrests and over six million dollars in confiscated drugs.

The largest drug haul was taken out of Kittitas County, which saw the biggest pot bust in the county’s history. Twenty personnel from a number of governmental branches swept through the Coleman Canyon area and found over 4,000 marijuana plants growing in five different “garden” spots in a wooded area north of the Old Vantage Highway.

“This is the biggest grow that I can remember for Kittitas County,” Sheriff Gene Dana said.

In Grant County, meanwhile, more than 60 law enforcement personnel from 11 agencies seized several pounds of marijuana, two kilos of cocaine, a pound of methamphetamine and more than $135,000 in cash. A helicopter unit from the DEA also assisted in harvesting more than 2,500 mature marijuana plants from a field about eight miles north of Mattawa, Washington.

Twelve illegal aliens in Grant County were arrested in the raid.

Finally, in Yakima County, a residence in Sunnyside, Washington was raided and searched Wednesday, turning up 15 marijuana plants, three-and-a-half pounds of marijuana ready to be packaged, $300 in cash, and two vehicles that were connected to the operation.

All three operations are believed to be connected.

No arrests were made in Yakima or Kittitas Counties, as nobody was present at the residences when the raid was conducted. However, more arrest warrants are anticipated as the investigations continue.

A SURFERS Paradise detective was on his way to work yesterday when he says he found more than $30,000 worth of the drug ice in a four-wheel-drive parked at an Arundel service station.

Acting Detective Sergeant Todd Miller had stopped for petrol on his way to start an afternoon shift when he spotted a man acting suspiciously in a black Mitsubishi Outlander at Freedom Fuel in Arundel Drive, Arundel.

“I called for back-up and then kept an eye on the vehicle and the driver,” said Det-Sgt Miller. “Just as he was about to drive off, I went over and identified myself and I observed that he was under the influence of drugs.

“Then I asked him if he had taken any drugs and he said there were drugs in the car.

“In clear view on the central console was a large clipseal bag with what turned out to be 60g of ice, and a glass ice pipe lay beside it.”

Det Sgt Miller arrested the man and searched the 4WD.

“We found another 7.3g of ice, 1.6g of heroin and a hidden vial of chemicals that is used in the manufacture of amphetamines,” he said.

“The Inala man then admitted to me that he was involved in the manufacture of amphetamines.”

SANFORD — Three illegal immigrants remain jailed in connection with what may be the biggest cocaine bust ever for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Lawmen found 11 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of $2.5 million when they searched a home on Blackstone Road on Saturday, said Chief Deputy Randall Butler.

“It may be the most cocaine seized at one time in Lee County,” Butler said. “If not, it’s close.”

The arrests followed a six-week investigation, Butler said.

Victor Manuel Gomez, 27, and Juan Carlos Frausto, 17, who live in the house, and Francisco Regollar, 27, of Atlanta are charged with trafficking cocaine, keeping a drug house and possessing drug paraphernalia, Butler said.

Deputies also found “a couple hundred dollars” and three guns at the residence, Butler said.

At least three other people, including a child, were in the home when it was searched, he said.

The cocaine was packaged in tightly wrapped squares about the size of a shoe box, Butler said.

The three will be reported to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Butler said.

Bail for each was set at $500,000, Butler said.

A year-long undercover drug investigation by Denver police has netted 20-pounds of marijuana, more than $240,000 and a dozen arrests.

The investigation, which targeted an interstate ring that allegedly shipped about 1,000 pounds of marijuana through Denver monthly, was wrapped up on Thursday, Denver police said in a press release.

Detectives watched locations in west Denver and served search warrants simultaneously, police said.

The Denver Police Metro SWAT Team, narcotics detectives, patrol officers, West Metro Task Force members and ICE agents carried out the raids and arrests.

Beyond the large amounts of cash and marijuana, authorities seized one-half ounce of cocaine, five guns, two bullet-proof vests and 11 vehicles.

Twelve people were arrested on felony drug charges for possession of controlled substances and marijuana distribution, police said, and were also held for immigration and customs enforcement violations.
