12 illegal aliens, over $6 Million in drugs seized
BEVERLY, WASH. — A massive drug bust in three Central Washington counties led to multiple arrests and over six million dollars in confiscated drugs.
The largest drug haul was taken out of Kittitas County, which saw the biggest pot bust in the county’s history. Twenty personnel from a number of governmental branches swept through the Coleman Canyon area and found over 4,000 marijuana plants growing in five different “garden” spots in a wooded area north of the Old Vantage Highway.
“This is the biggest grow that I can remember for Kittitas County,” Sheriff Gene Dana said.
In Grant County, meanwhile, more than 60 law enforcement personnel from 11 agencies seized several pounds of marijuana, two kilos of cocaine, a pound of methamphetamine and more than $135,000 in cash. A helicopter unit from the DEA also assisted in harvesting more than 2,500 mature marijuana plants from a field about eight miles north of Mattawa, Washington.
Twelve illegal aliens in Grant County were arrested in the raid.
Finally, in Yakima County, a residence in Sunnyside, Washington was raided and searched Wednesday, turning up 15 marijuana plants, three-and-a-half pounds of marijuana ready to be packaged, $300 in cash, and two vehicles that were connected to the operation.
All three operations are believed to be connected.
No arrests were made in Yakima or Kittitas Counties, as nobody was present at the residences when the raid was conducted. However, more arrest warrants are anticipated as the investigations continue.
