A Vancouver man was arrested Dec. 21 in connection with an alleged cross-border drug smuggling operation.

Shortly before 10 p.m., a plainclothes Abbotsford police officer pulled over a 2007 Chrysler Sebring in the parking lot of the South Abbotsford Mennonite Church, just blocks from the U.S. border.

The driver was arrested and police say a search of the car uncovered three duffel bags of ecstasy tablets in vacuum-sealed packages. The 120,000 pills are worth approximately $1.2 million.

David Jir, 19, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
