Four people are expected to face drug charges after a Sanilac County Drug Task Force sting.
A 35-year-old Sandusky woman, a 57-year-old Harbor Beach man, and 56- and 49-year-old men from Bad Axe were arrested Sunday. They will be arraigned on various drug charges Jan. 28 in Sanilac County District Court.
Based on tips, investigators had been conducting surveillance on the woman who officials said was selling cocaine from a Marion Street home.
On Sunday, police followed the woman to Ruth and Bay City-Forestville roads in Delaware Township where she bought crack from the Harbor Beach man.Later in the day, police arrested the Bad Axe men, who are believed to have been selling the woman cocaine, after they left the Marion Street home in a 1989 Lincoln. Inside the car, they found more than 21 grams of high-purity cocaine powder with a street value between $2,500 and $5,000, said William Gray, director of the drug task force.
The cocaine is believed to have come from Saginaw.
“Getting this amount of cocaine is significant for Sanilac County,” Gray said. “Generally, powder drugs are found in relatively smaller amounts, less than 10 grams of the stuff.”
Gray said the powder seized Sunday, which was about 80% pure, is what upper-level distributors sell to street dealers, who mix it with other substances for resale.
Gray said Sanilac County authorities have seen more cocaine than usual in the past several months. He said it’s more common for police to find people driving to Detroit to buy small amounts of marijuana.
