CALGARY — Federal officials have made the biggest border seizure of heroin in Alberta’s history, confiscating an estimated $2.4 million worth of the opiate at Calgary International Airport.
The bust occurred May 14 when a man and a woman - both Canadian nationals - arrived on a British Airways flight from London’s Heathrow Airport, said Lisa White, spokesman for the Canada Border Services Agency.
“One of their bags had a false-bottom shoe with drugs in it and that led to a further search,” she said.
More heroin was plucked from the false bottoms of three luggage pieces, said White, adding up to a take of 7.8 kg.
Bakshish Singh Ghai, 21, and Aneelvir Grewal, 18, are charged with importation and possession with the purpose of trafficking.
